On March 28, 2020, the Office of the Premier of Ontario (Doug Ford), released an announcement that there would be new penalties to combat price gouging. In particular, Ford took to shaming one small chain of stores for marking up the price of sanitizer wipes. This chain had to reply immediately; however, it is not clear yet at the time of drafting whether further prosecution of this chain will continue after it made a public reply and retraction of the price increase by blaming it on a listing error.
